Institutional Profile

Institute for Industrial Technology (IIT) is a leading non-profit technical training institution in Lagos-Nigeria providing top-quality training to persons belonging mainly to the lower income stratum of society by means of scholarships. It offers hands-on practical training geared to support and contribute to the development of the industrial sector of the economy offering training programmes in the fields of engineering and manufacturing, oil and gas, petrochemical, building services, automotive and other industrial sectors. 

IIT is open to the target beneficiaries, irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliations. Although it started operations on March 27, 2000, it was approved by the Lagos State Government as a private vocational school in May 2006. Over 2000 students and employees have gone through one course or the other in IIT to date. 

Other specific characteristics of the school include:

 Skills taught are tailored to the needs of the different industries in the economy while maintaining a strong link with them. Practical training in industry is sandwiched with training in school. This makes it easier for industry to absorb/retain the products at the end of their training. 

 Within the school an integrated method of teaching in which theory and practice go hand in hand is used.  Practical content is high (70%).

 Training imparted has a three-fold dimension; technical capability, entrepreneurial ability and moral rectitude through work ethics program and one-on-one mentoring. These form the distinguishing features of our products.

 Continuous updating/retraining of teachers/instructors in relevant technology is also pursued.

 Emphasis is placed on continuous investment in standard and up-to-date training equipment/technology and instructor training.


IIT is an initiative of the African Development Foundation (ADF), a non-governmental organisation with interest in educational and social welfare projects. Through the IIT, ADF aims to address the problems of poverty and youth unemployment in Nigeria while providing skilled manpower for the economy. ADF is registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Decree of 1990 and managed by the Registered Trustees of the Foundation.
